The EV Project is deploying charge infrastructure in 18 major cities and metropolitan areas in 6 states and the District of Columbia in an effort to pave the way for the successful rollout of electric transportation across America.

On August 5, 2009, ECOtality was awarded a $99.8 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to embark on this Project, and officially launched on October 1, 2009. In June 2010, the Project was granted an additional $15 million by the U.S. Department of Energy. With partner matches, the total value of the Project is, as of this posting, approximately $230 million.

Initial infrastructure deployment – the largest deployment of electric vehicle charge infrastructure in history – began in the Winter of 2010. Owners of electric plug-in vehicles like the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan LEAF can utilize the infrastructure to keep their vehicles on the road for extended trips away from home.
